This limited-edition MWC Classic Aviator is inspired by the iconic Luftwaffe pilot’s watches worn during the Second World War. It recreates the look and spirit of the original Luftwaffe aircrew models while offering the reliability and convenience of modern engineering.

The Classic Aviator series draws from military designs of the 1940s and 1950s. Earlier wartime watches often used a small subsidiary seconds dial, while later models—like this one—featured a sweep second hand, a style that became increasingly standard from around 1943. These subtle historical variations let collectors choose the era and aesthetic they prefer.

With its commanding 46mm case (excluding the crown), this watch has real wrist presence. It’s the kind of piece that tends to catch the eye of fellow enthusiasts—and with good reason. The generous dial size ensures superb legibility at all times, faithfully echoing the purpose-built functionality of the original WWII pilot’s watches.

Inside, the watch is powered by the reliable NH35A automatic movement, a 24-jewel calibre running at 21,600 BPH with a power reserve of approximately 41 hours when fully wound. A clear exhibition caseback allows you to admire the movement at work.

Why Sapphire Crystal Matters

Sapphire crystal is used in high-performance watches for one simple reason: it’s exceptionally tough. It is highly resistant to scratches, shattering, and everyday wear—qualities that make it the preferred choice for military personnel, law enforcement, security professionals, and outdoor users. These groups represent over 70% of our customer base, and our experience shows that more than 90% of cracked crystals occur on watches fitted with mineral glass. Even hardened mineral glass cannot match sapphire for durability.

Each sapphire crystal is heat-treated to eliminate internal stresses before receiving two layers of anti-reflective coating for enhanced clarity. Although sapphire is more expensive to produce and is typically found on higher-end watches, its performance makes it well worth the investment—and it’s the same material now used on the latest iPhone models.
