Military pocket watches—and their civilian counterparts—are experiencing a major resurgence in popularity. Historically, these timepieces were essential tools for both land and naval operations. During WWII, they were widely favored by RAF and USAAF navigators and bomb aimers (or Bombardiers, in the U.S.) who often preferred them over standard wristwatches. Why? Simple: practicality. Pocket watches could be laid flat on charts, mounted in aircraft noses, or placed on navigation benches—ideal when timing had to be precise and visibility was crucial.
Another key factor was size. Wristwatches of the era typically measured just 32mm in diameter, making them harder to read in fast-paced or low-light situations. By contrast, the larger 50mm pocket watches offered far superior legibility—a significant advantage when seconds mattered.
At MWC, we’ve reimagined this iconic format with modern mechanics and classic styling. This particular variant is fitted with a robust 24-jewel automatic movement, offering a 41-hour power reserve. It can also be hand-wound and features a hacking function, allowing precise time synchronization or pausing to conserve power if the watch isn’t in use for an extended period.
