The matte black, non-reflective PVD finish used on this model is frequently specified in military contracts, particularly for special forces and anti-terrorist units involved in covert operations. In the PVD process, the steel is not black throughout. Instead, the color is created through a chemical PVD plating process, which is far superior to the painted finishes on lower-quality watches that can fade or wear off. This process alters the color of the steel at a molecular level, ensuring that it withstands heavy use. However, extreme damage, such as gouges from metal or continuous abrasion against rocks, can still affect the finish.
