22mm Green and Red NATO Military Watch Strap
Description
SKU Code: NATO22MMGR
This classic NATO watch strap is manufactured from fast-drying ballistic nylon webbing, a high-performance material ideally suited to military and professional use. Ballistic nylon is exceptionally durable, comfortable to wear, and resistant to the harsh conditions encountered during outdoor activities, military operations, and everyday use.
One of the NATO strap's greatest advantages is its secure design. Unlike conventional two-piece straps, a NATO strap passes underneath the watch case and secures it at two separate points. As a result, even if a spring bar fails, the watch remains attached to the strap, significantly reducing the risk of accidental loss. This makes NATO straps particularly popular with military personnel, emergency services, divers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
History of the NATO Strap
The origins of the NATO strap date back over 40 years. The original version was a simple grey 20mm nylon strap issued to British military personnel. Over time, additional colours and patterns were introduced, including RAF Blue, Navy Blue, Black, Olive Green, and the famous "James Bond" pattern. From these early designs, the range expanded to include regimental colours, Search and Rescue (SAR) orange variants, police and emergency service colours, national colour combinations, and specialised camouflage patterns.
Today, NATO straps are used by military forces around the world and are widely purchased by serving personnel for use with military-issued and civilian watches alike.
Extensive Range and Military Heritage
We currently manufacture more than 167 different NATO strap variants in a wide variety of colours and configurations. While most are produced for retail customers, we also manufacture custom versions for military and government procurement contracts.
The original specification for what is now commonly known as the "NATO strap" was established by the UK Ministry of Defence under Defence Standard 66-47 Issue 2, published on 30 March 2001. This specification was preceded by:
- Def Stan 66-47 Issue 1 (13 November 1992)
- Def Stan 66-15 Part 1 Issue 1 – Strap (Nylon) (30 November 1973)
- Def Stan 66-15 Part 2 Issue 1 – Strap (Leather/Nylon) (31 January 1974)
While some modern procurement contracts require stitching around the buckle assembly, the overall design remains remarkably close to the original military specification.
Proven Performance in Demanding Environments
For more than two decades, we have supplied NATO straps to a diverse range of organisations and individuals, including:
- Military personnel
- Police forces
- Emergency services
- Search and Rescue teams
- Exploration units
- Oil and gas companies
- Marine salvage operators
- Organisations operating in tropical, desert, and extreme environments
The enduring popularity of NATO straps stems from their practicality. They can be washed easily, dry within minutes, resist rot and mildew, and are far more durable than leather in wet conditions. Unlike many silicone straps, they are also highly resistant to splitting and tearing over time.
Compatibility
NATO straps are suitable for virtually any watch with standard spring bars and are particularly popular when paired with military and professional timepieces. They are also widely used with watches from leading manufacturers such as Rolex, Seiko, Breitling, Pulsar, and many others.
Whether used for military service, outdoor adventures, sports activities, or everyday wear, a quality NATO strap remains one of the most secure, practical, and versatile watch strap designs ever developed.
