These diver watches are a modern remake of one of MWC’s 1980s models, featuring a robust black PVD stainless steel case. One variant of this watch was specially designed for a U.S. contractor who secured a significant contract with their client. This updated model is equipped with a high-performance, 24-jewel automatic self-winding movement.

MWC has made several upgrades to the original design, including:

• Shatter- and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

• Increased water resistance.

The case features a covert matt black, non-reflective PVD finish, often specified in military contracts for special forces and anti-terrorist units. Unlike painted finishes, the PVD coating alters the steel at a molecular level, ensuring exceptional durability that won’t fade or rub off with regular use. While the finish can withstand heavy usage, severe damage (e.g., gouges or extensive abrasion) may compromise the coating.

This watch is inspired by the 1980 UK MOD specification for automatic divers’ watches (DEF STAN 66-4 [Part 1] Issue 3), which required features such as a unidirectional bezel and a boldly marked dial with tritium paint. While the original specification included mineral glass crystals, this modern version incorporates a sapphire crystal for enhanced durability and clarity. The final two images showcase the original MOD document from 1980.
