The MWC Classic Aviator range includes several pilot watches, each inspired by classic aviator designs from World War II. These 1940s-style timepieces are ideal for those who want a modern, low-maintenance automatic watch that retains the look and feel of the military pilot watches used between 1940 and 1945.
Some models, like this one, feature a traditional subsidiary seconds dial positioned above 6 o’clock— a common design element in the early 1940s. Other models in the range incorporate a sweep second hand, which started to replace subsidiary dials from around 1943 onward. These two design variations allow you to choose a model that best matches your style preferences.
With an imposing 46mm case (excluding the crown), this watch commands attention and often receives favorable comments from watch enthusiasts. The large dial size also enhances legibility, making it easy to read both day and night, just like the original World War II versions.
This model is powered by a traditional 22-jewel automatic mechanical movement, visible through the transparent caseback, with the MWC logo engraved on the rotor.

Why Sapphire Crystal?
Many customers ask about the benefits of sapphire crystal over standard mineral glass. Synthetic sapphire is the superior choice for watch crystals due to its exceptional strength, shatter resistance, and scratch resistance. These properties make it particularly popular among military personnel, security professionals, police officers, and those with active outdoor lifestyles—groups that make up over 70% of our customer base.
In our experience, more than 90% of cracked crystals result from impacts to watches with mineral glass, even when hardened mineral crystals are used. Sapphire crystal, on the other hand, is heat-treated to remove internal stresses that could cause weaknesses. After manufacturing, two layers of anti-reflective coating are applied to enhance visibility. This durability is why sapphire crystal is now used on high-end watches and even the latest iPhone models.
While sapphire crystal comes at a premium, its durability and clarity make it a worthwhile investment, typically found in higher-end timepieces.
