Fault/Notes:

This watch came from a defence disposal sale where it was listed as "not working" and was part of a larger quantity of similar watches. However, when we inspected it upon arrival, the watch was running, and several days later it was still operating normally.

Our suspicion is that there may have been an intermittent issue, such as a loose battery connection or something similar. If the watch was found not to be running during the disposal process, yet is running now, it is reasonable to assume that it may have experienced a temporary fault rather than a major defect. At present, we simply cannot be certain whether there is any underlying issue, whether it would benefit from a new battery, or whether there is a minor connection problem. Whatever the cause, it is likely to be straightforward to rectify, as the watch uses the widely available and highly reliable Ronda 705/715 movement.

As with all watches acquired through defence auctions and disposal sales, we offer them on the understanding that faults may exist. In practice, the vast majority prove to have no significant issues, and when faults are encountered they are usually minor, such as requiring a battery replacement, basic servicing, or a simple adjustment.

These watches are sold at a substantial discount because our service personnel in the UK and elsewhere only have limited time available to inspect them. As a result, they typically receive a brief functional check rather than a complete overhaul. This approach allows us to offer them at very attractive prices while acknowledging that some may require minor attention.

This MWC model is directly descended from the original G10 watches we manufactured in the 1980s and retains the popular battery hatch — a feature that most other manufacturers have abandoned. In the early days of quartz, batteries lasted only about a year, so the hatch made replacements easier. With modern batteries now lasting around 5 years, it is largely a design feature, but it remains popular for historical and practical reasons.

This particular G10 variant is one of MWC’s most tried-and-tested models. Earlier versions have been in service for over 30 years, with many deployments worldwide reporting very favourably on its long-term reliability and durability. A key improvement over older G10 models is the screw-down locking crown, which offers greater protection compared to more vulnerable push-in crowns.

The watch also uses Luminova for improved night-time visibility. Luminova functions like a rechargeable light battery: after exposure to sunlight or artificial light, the dial glows in the dark for several hours, with larger markings often visible throughout the night. Unlike older luminous materials, Luminova does not degrade with age and is completely free of radioactivity.

Rugged and built to handle the most extreme conditions, this G10 battery hatch variant is supplied with both a current-issue grey NATO webbing strap and a black NATO strap. A wide range of other straps are also available if desired. The caseback bears the usual contract markings (unique to each watch) and a serial number.
