Brand New Chronoports Magnum PI Quartz Day/Date Military Divers Watch with Stainless Steel Case and Sapphire Crystal

This watch is unused with the plastic protectors still on the crystal and caseback and comes in its original box, in the condition shown in the photographs. We acquired two of these watches from a person who had purchased them as Christmas gifts but never given them to the intended recipients.

The original purchaser recalls he bought them around Christmas 2023, although we cannot confirm their exact age. Please bear in mind that a battery replacement may be needed quite soon: the movement manufacturer quotes approximately 45 months (3 years and 9 months) of battery life with the standard 371 battery, and batteries continue to discharge even when a watch is unused. Of course they may be fine for quite some time, but it's difficult to be certain because they were running when they came in but we don't know the exact date of manufacture of the Watch but most likely it was somewhere in 2023.

The Chronoport Sea Quartz 300m dive watch is based on the Watch, which Tom Selleck wore in the early years of Magnum, P.I.

The watch’s origins: The watch first appeared in 1977. It was an early analogue quartz dive watch, offering accurate timekeeping, low maintenance costs and 300-metre water resistance. Its distinctive features included a black dial, day-date display and a slim rotating bezel.  

The Magnum connection: Selleck wore the watch during the first three seasons of the original series, which began in 1980, usually on a black Tropic-style rubber strap. It suited Thomas Magnum’s background as a former Navy SEAL and helped give the watch its lasting following. From season four, his principal watch became the Rolex GMT-Master with the red-and-blue “Pepsi” bezel.  

The modern revival: In 2022, the Chronoport Sea Quartz 300 was launched. This watch was inspired by the Chronosport Sea Quartz 30 worn by Tom Selleck in the first three seasons of Magnum, P.I. The last two images show the original Watch used in the series plus some related images.

The watch case is based on a historic design originally crafted by the Swiss case-making company MRP S.A., which has been used by notable brands like Heuer, Precista, Nilax, and Chronosport, among others. First produced in the late 1970s, this case design remains in continuous production over 40 years later, a testament to its durability and appeal.
