Military pocket watches, along with their civilian equivalents, are experiencing a significant increase in popularity. Historically, these watches were often used for both land-based and naval applications. During WWII, RAF and USAAF navigators and bomb aimers (US: Bombardiers) frequently preferred pocket watches over conventional wristwatches. The larger size of pocket watches, nearly 50mm in diameter, made them much easier to read compared to the smaller wristwatches of the time, which averaged only around 36mm in diameter. Pocket watches were also easier to place on a chart, bench, or in the nose of an aircraft while working or approaching a target.
