MWC Automatic Black PVD Military Divers Watch - Tritium / GTLS Illumination, Sapphire Crystal and 60 Hour Power Reserve - Hands Need Adjustment But Watch is Brand New

Sale price £175.00 Regular price £449.00

Description

MIL26JUL-07

This watch originates from a military and security industry clearance sale. It is brand new, supplied in its original box, and shows no signs of having ever been worn or used.

The watch is running perfectly and is in new condition. The only known issue is that the hands are difficult to set when using the crown. Based on the watch's otherwise unused condition, it is highly likely that this fault was identified when the watch was originally issued to a military, police, or security organisation and was subsequently returned to stores rather than placed into service.

Apart from this hand-setting issue, the watch is fully functional and remains in outstanding overall condition.

The Watch represents a very substantial saving over the new price and is clearly only requiring work which would be very straightforward and routine for anyone with horological skills.

MWC 300m Military Diver Automatic GTLS – Black PVD

SKU: DV2001/PV/AU/GTLS

A Modern Evolution of an MWC Classic

The MWC 300m Automatic GTLS Diver traces its heritage back to the company's professional military dive watches of the early 1990s. This model is closely based on the landmark 2005 version—the first MWC dive watch to incorporate self-powered Swiss tritium gas tube illumination (GTLS).

While remaining faithful to the original design, this latest version incorporates over two decades of advances in materials and watchmaking, resulting in one of the most capable military dive watches MWC has ever produced.

Swiss Tritium GTLS Illumination

Unlike conventional luminous paint, Swiss GTLS (Gaseous Tritium Light Sources) provide continuous illumination 24 hours a day without requiring exposure to light.

Each hour marker, together with the hour and minute hands, contains an individual tritium gas tube that glows continuously from dusk until dawn. There is no charging, no maintenance, and no battery consumption.

The GTLS system remains effective for well over a decade before gradually fading, making it the preferred choice for military personnel, police officers, emergency services, and anyone who depends on immediate legibility in complete darkness.

Despite using radioactive tritium gas, the total quantity contained within the watch is well below internationally permitted personal limits and complies with applicable regulations.

Inspired by an Unexpected Discovery

Several years ago, one of our Australian distributors made an extraordinary discovery while conducting a warehouse inventory. Hidden away in storage were 500 brand-new MWC dive watches manufactured between 1999 and 2001 that had never been sold.

Originally supplied over several years, the final shipment had somehow been overlooked and remained untouched for almost two decades.

After reacquiring these watches, they sold out remarkably quickly, demonstrating just how popular the original design remained. Their success inspired MWC to recreate the watch while incorporating the significant technical improvements that modern manufacturing now makes possible.

Modern Upgrades

Although visually faithful to the original, the current model benefits from numerous improvements, including:

  • Automatic movement with approximately 60-hour power reserve
  • Hand-winding capability
  • Hacking seconds for precise synchronisation
  • Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating
  • Precision 120-click unidirectional bezel
  • Latest-generation Swiss GTLS illumination
  • Enhanced overall manufacturing tolerances and finishing

The result is a classic military diver with thoroughly modern performance.

A Historic Military Dive Watch Case

The case design is based on the famous Swiss pattern originally manufactured by MRP S.A., one of Switzerland's best-known specialist case makers.

Founded in 1953, MRP supplied cases to numerous respected manufacturers, including Precista, Heuer (pre-Tag Heuer), Nilax, Elvia, Chronosport, CWC, and MWC.

Apart from minor refinements, this iconic case design has remained in continuous production for well over forty years—a remarkable testament to its enduring functionality and timeless proportions.

The standard version of this watch also traces its design lineage directly back to British Ministry of Defence dive watch specifications.

Built for Professional Use

With 300 metres (1000 feet) of water resistance, a screw-down crown, sapphire crystal, and robust automatic movement, this watch is designed as a genuine professional tool rather than a fashion accessory.

Its 40mm case (45mm including the crown) wears comfortably while accepting the standard 20mm NATO military webbing strap, giving access to an extensive range of compatible strap options.

Why Sapphire Crystal?

Sapphire crystal is widely regarded as the premium material for professional watches. It is exceptionally scratch-resistant and significantly more impact-resistant than conventional mineral glass, making it ideal for military, police, diving, and outdoor use.

Based on our service experience, well over 90% of cracked watch crystals are mineral glass. Even hardened mineral glass cannot match sapphire's long-term durability.

Each sapphire crystal is heat-treated to relieve internal stresses before receiving anti-reflective coatings that improve clarity while reducing glare. Although substantially more expensive than mineral glass, sapphire remains the benchmark for premium tool watches—and for good reason.

Combining proven military heritage with modern engineering, this GTLS Diver offers exceptional night-time visibility, rugged reliability, and a specification normally found only on considerably more expensive professional dive watches.
