MWC "Depthmaster" 100atm / 3,280ft / 1000m Water Resistant Military Divers Watch in PVD Stainless Steel Case with Helium Valve (Quartz) - Contract Surplus Reduced to Half Price!! - Located in the UK
We managed to secure a small quantity of these watches which were contract surplus overruns. They are all brand new, and in their boxes but most of the boxes have labels relating to the contract although a few do not, the watch is now out of stock on the manufacturers website but as you can see in the final image was originally sold at $425 on the US website and £349 on the UK site so at half price, these are a bargain for the watch with such a high specifications. We spoke to MWC, who confirmed that these watches were a once off production run so will not be made again in future with the same exact specification which, as you can see at the bottom of the description was very exacting.

Overview
The MWC "Depthmaster" Military Diver range represents the latest innovation in MWC's heavy-duty watch lineup. Built for extreme conditions, these watches combine 100ATM water resistance, a sapphire crystal, and a non-scratch ceramic bezel for maximum durability and performance. Designed specifically for professional divers, the 24mm strap—wider than the standard 20mm found on most military dive watches—provides enhanced comfort and security.
This model is tailored for challenging environments and delivers unmatched reliability, even in the harshest conditions.
Key Features
Helium Escape Valve
Each MWC 100ATM model is equipped with a helium escape valve, an essential feature for saturation divers working in pressurized environments. Helium molecules, being extremely small, can penetrate the watch case despite fully functional seals. As the diver decompresses, helium trapped inside the watch can build up pressure, potentially damaging the case, crystal, or crown.
The helium escape valve allows helium to escape automatically during decompression, ensuring the watch’s safety and functionality. This one-way valve prevents external substances from entering, making it a critical feature for professional diving operations.
Why Helium Matters
Helium is commonly used in mixed-gas diving to replace nitrogen, which can cause nitrogen narcosis at depth. Divers living in pressurized habitats breathe an oxygen/helium mix for extended periods. Without a helium valve, pressure buildup inside the watch during decompression could result in catastrophic damage.
While recreational divers may not need this feature, the helium valve ensures the Depthmaster is ready for any professional scenario.
Unique Design Features
This particular model includes a sterile NATO-pattern dial, making it distinct from other watches in the Depthmaster range. The black PVD stainless steel case features a matte, non-reflective finish, a specification often required for military contracts, special forces, and covert operations.
The PVD coating chemically bonds to the steel at a molecular level, providing superior durability compared to painted finishes. It resists fading and wear, even under heavy use. However, the finish can sustain damage if gouged or exposed to severe abrasion.
Special Military Features
This watch was designed specifically for a military procurement contract, incorporating the following unique features:
- High-altitude accuracy: Performs reliably at altitudes up to 12,000m / 40,000ft without compensatory pressurization.
- Magnetic resistance: Withstands exposure to magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m (approximately 60 gauss).
These specifications reflect unusually demanding requirements, making this model stand out within the 100ATM range. Additionally, the contractor specified the inclusion of a sterile (unbranded) dial to maintain a low-profile aesthetic.
Movement
The watch is powered by a Swiss Ronda 715li quartz movement, known for its hacking function and 10-year battery life.

Sapphire Crystal Benefits
The sapphire crystal provides superior strength and clarity, making it resistant to both scratches and shattering. It is heat-treated to remove internal stresses, further enhancing durability. Additionally, the crystal is coated with two layers of anti-reflective material for improved visibility in all lighting conditions.
Advantages Over Mineral Glass:
- Enhanced Durability: Over 90% of crystal damage reported on watches involves mineral glass, even when hardened. Sapphire crystals significantly outperform in these scenarios.
- Clarity and Longevity: Remains clear and functional even after years of use.
Given its benefits, sapphire is the preferred choice for military, security personnel, and outdoor enthusiasts, who account for over 70% of MWC’s customers.
Conclusion
The MWC Depthmaster in SKU: 100AT/12/PVD/QZ/ST is a robust and versatile timepiece, combining advanced features and military-grade durability. Its unbranded, sterile dial and specialized features make it a unique choice for professionals operating under the most demanding conditions.
