Factory Description
SKU Code: SELZ/KM1
This automatic, self-winding classic WWII-style Selza military watch features a small subsidiary seconds hand. It is inspired by designs used by the German Kriegsmarine (Navy) during World War II. Notably, Kriegsmarine watches often featured "K.M." on the dial, denoting Kriegsmarine, and had light-colored dials (cream or white) in contrast to the black dials used for other branches of the German forces.
This modern watch closely replicates one of Selza's original WWII designs. While original models are now rare and command high prices, this updated version maintains an outward resemblance to the original, including an acrylic crystal. However, it replaces the original 15-jewel hand-winding mechanical movement with a 21-jewel self-winding automatic movement that can also be wound manually. This combination preserves the vintage aesthetic while offering practical modern improvements for everyday use.
In WWII, Selza and Siegerin were two leading manufacturers for the Kriegsmarine, also producing watches for the Luftwaffe, Fallschirmjäger (paratroopers), and Flak (anti-aircraft) corps. German military watches from this era shared a similar design and appearance, much like the British "Dirty Dozen" watches. Collecting German equivalents can be challenging due to the extensive number of suppliers, exceeding 100 manufacturers, compared to the British War Ministry's use of only 12 contractors.
